Privacy policy

This website uses two analytics tools. Microsoft Clarity records how you move around a page — clicks, scrolling and pointer movement — and Google Analytics counts which pages are visited and how people arrive. Both set cookies to recognise a returning browser. Neither asks for your name or any contact detail, and we never use either to identify you personally.

Neither one loads when the page first opens. They start only once you do something on it — scroll, tap or move the pointer — so a page you open and immediately close is not recorded at all.

Beyond that, the site loads nothing from anybody else’s servers — no embedded maps, no video players, no social widgets, and no third-party fonts. There is no contact form, because there is nothing on the site to fill in.

In practice that means we hold personal information about you only if you have contacted us, or we have done work for you.

When you ring or email us about work, we collect what you tell us. Typically that is:

• Your name
• Your telephone number and email address
• The address of the property the work relates to
• What the job is, and anything relevant about the installation
• Anything else you choose to tell us

Where we carry out work, we also keep the certificates and reports that the work requires — an EICR, an installation certificate, a minor works certificate — which by their nature record the property address and the date of the work.

The pages are static files, so nothing is collected by the site itself. Microsoft Clarity, which runs on every page, records how the page was used: pointer movement, clicks, scrolling, the pages visited, and the browser, device type and approximate location that your IP address implies. Those recordings can be replayed as video by us to see where a page is confusing.

Google Analytics, also on every page, records which pages were visited, how long for, how you arrived, and the same broad browser, device and approximate location detail. It reports in aggregate and does not produce recordings.

Microsoft and Google each act as our processor for their own tool and publish their own privacy statements.

Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, as effectively every web host does. Those logs record the IP address making a request, the page requested, the time, and the browser’s self-reported type. They exist so the host can keep the service running and secure. We do not use them to build a picture of you, we do not combine them with anything else, and we do not use them for marketing.

Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics each set cookies so they can tell whether a browser has visited before and group the pages of one visit together. They are analytics cookies, not advertising cookies, and nothing on this site sets a cookie for marketing or shows you an advert.

You can stop them by blocking third-party cookies in your browser, or by using its do-not-track or private browsing mode. Blocking them changes nothing about how the site works for you.

Pages on this site link out to other organisations — UK Power Networks, Ofgem, the NICEIC, legislation.gov.uk and similar. Those sites have their own policies and may well set cookies of their own. We have no control over that, and following a link takes you outside this policy.

We use your information to:

• Answer your enquiry and give you a price
• Arrange and carry out the work
• Issue certificates and reports, and keep our copy of them
• Contact you about a job that is already under way
• Keep the business records we are required to keep

Our lawful basis is usually the performance of a contract with you, or taking steps at your request before entering one. Where we keep records because the law requires it — certification and accounting records in particular — the basis is our legal obligation.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not run marketing lists. If you have used us before we may occasionally get in touch about something genuinely relevant, such as an inspection falling due. Tell us to stop at any time and we will.

We do not share your information with third parties, except where:

• The law requires it, or a regulator or court orders it
• It is necessary to do the work — for example lodging a notifiable job with our certification body, or notifying building control
• Our accountant or insurer needs it for the purpose they are engaged for
• It is necessary to establish or defend a legal claim
• You have asked us to

Anyone acting on our behalf is required to keep your information confidential and to use it only for the purpose we gave it to them for.

Enquiries that do not become work are not kept indefinitely. Records of work carried out are kept longer, because electrical certification is a document you or a future owner may need years later, and because we may need it if a question is raised about work we did. Accounting records are kept for the period HMRC requires.

When information is no longer needed for any of those purposes, we delete it.

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, disclosure and alteration. No method of transmitting information over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information sent to us by email.

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

• Ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy
• Have inaccurate data corrected
• Ask us to delete data, where we are not required to keep it
• Ask us to restrict how we use it
• Object to processing
• Ask for your data to be transferred to someone else
• Withdraw consent, where we relied on consent

Ask us using the details at the foot of this page and we will respond within the time the law allows. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, who regulate this in the UK.

This site links to other organisations, and to our listing on Google. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices, and this policy does not cover them.

We may update this policy. Any update appears on this page with a new date at the top. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, the change will be described rather than made quietly.
