Almost nobody rings an electrician because they want to. They ring because something has stopped working, or because somebody has asked them for a certificate — and in both cases they are about to spend money on something they cannot check for themselves.
That is the real problem, and it is not the wiring. It is the not knowing. Whether the price is fair, whether the job needs doing at all, whether the person who turned up is qualified to do it. A surprising amount of what people ask us on the phone is a question about trust wearing a technical hat.
So the business is built around taking that away. One number that a person answers. An hourly rate you hear before we set off rather than after. Work certified and notified so there is a record of it. And an honest answer when the honest answer is that we do not know yet — because the alternative is a number invented to win the job and revised once we are in your loft.

Something has stopped
A board that will not stay in, a dead circuit, a burning smell. The half of the work that cannot wait until Tuesday, and the reason the phone is answered at three in the morning.
Somebody wants paperwork
A landlord with a tenancy starting, an agent chasing a report, a sale that has stalled on an EICR. Deadlines set by other people, which is its own kind of pressure.
The house has outgrown its wiring
Installations built for a household with an iron and a wireless, now asked to run a kitchen full of appliances. Fuse boards, rewires, and the sockets that were never there.
It was done badly before
Work added by whoever was cheapest, circuits nobody can account for, a board carrying more history than capacity. Untangling that is most of what fault finding is.
A business cannot shut down
Shops, offices and managed premises where the work has to happen around trading. Three-phase, fixed wire testing, and emergency lighting installed and certified.
Nobody will give a straight answer
People who have already had two electricians out and still have no explanation. Sometimes the useful thing we do is tell you what is wrong and that it is not urgent.
How it works
Including the parts most trades leave you to find out on the day.
- You ring, a person answers
- Not a call centre taking a message for the morning. Describe what it is doing and you will get a straight answer about whether it needs somebody now or whether it can safely wait.
- Charged by the hour, with an estimate first
- A rough estimate before we start and the rate before we set off. We do not quote a fixed price for work nobody has looked at yet, because opening things up genuinely does change the picture sometimes.
- No call-out fee
- No separate charge on top of the hourly rate just for turning up, and nothing to pay before we arrive. There is a minimum of one hour, and you hear that on the phone rather than afterwards.
- Tested, certified, notified
- Notifiable work is certified and notified under Part P by us, so the record reaches building control without you applying separately or paying their fee.
- We stop where the next trade starts
- Chased walls are left ready to plaster. Plastering and decorating are another trade, and saying so up front is easier than explaining it at the end.
15 years of it
Mizan started Ideal Electricians Ltd in 2011 and still leads the work. It runs out of Dagenham, which is why east London is the part of the map we know without looking it up — and the work has spread out from there, through Havering and Redbridge, up the Lea valley, out along the A12 and A127 into Essex, and over the crossing into north Kent.
We are an NICEIC approved contractor, which is not a badge you buy. It is an annual assessment of real installations against BS 7671, and it is the reason notifiable work can be certified and notified by us rather than left with you. Part P registered, City & Guilds and EAL qualified, and fully insured.
