East London is not one kind of building. Barking and Dagenham is largely interwar estate housing built fast and wired for a household that owned a wireless and an iron. Tower Hamlets runs from Victorian terrace to warehouse conversion to tower block, sometimes on the same street. Havering is suburban and later. The work changes accordingly, and so does what goes wrong.
