What it means when the work is in your home
Domestic work is not a smaller version of commercial work. It happens around people who live there, usually while they are still living there, and the constraints that come with that decide how a job is planned — which circuits can be off and for how long, whether the kitchen has to stop working, what can be done in a day.
It is also the side of the trade with the most law attached to it. Certain work in a dwelling is notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations, which means it has to be certified and registered with building control. Being an NICEIC approved contractor is what lets us do that ourselves rather than leaving you to arrange a building notice and pay for an inspection.
The practical version: you get a certificate for the work, it is lodged where it needs to be, and when you come to sell the house the paperwork exists.
